Why Are not You Blogging Yet

Posted on October 26th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Ever have one of those dreams when you are doing everything you can to run at a full sprint, but it feels like your legs are thigh deep in black tar Or, you’re trying like heck to shout a very important message to someone you love, like Get out of the way The train coming or Watch out There is a giant shark fin right behind you but all that comes out is strained, laryngit is ized hot air

This is what is happening in my life right now. I sit across from friends and business associates, talk with entrepreneurs and small business owners, and share strategy sessions with larger companies and corporations, and I mention the possibility of them blogging. There is a universal glazed look, often followed by a shrug, or a nose crinkle. Eh, I do not see the point, or Yeah, I thought about that…

I know it is my job to just let it go, and I do, because every business person knows the I am not ready to talk about this look. Oh, but it is killing me Because if you are serious about your business, career, or professional reputation, there is absolutely no reason for you not to publicize your interest and expertise in the form of a blog.

A blog is conversational. It comes alive with YOUR distinct voice, style, and proclivities. It dies if it is fueled by the dreaded Corpspeak, stiff language, or totally self conscious and safe, play by the rules drivel.

A blog is FREE. Or extremely low cost, depending on how you go. I mean, COME ON, what else is FREE these days

A blog is a mirror. It is an organized trail of your ideas, experience, and hints at your vision. It is ALSO a living, breathing organic organism that grows as you grow. It is like one of those smart computers that develops its own life and personality over time.
A blog is search engine friendly. It is PROOF you know your industry or subject matter. It is PROOF you are active in your business and niche.

A blog is a way to connect with other like minded professionals. When you comment on someone else blog, or when they comment on yours, it is like a quick, manly nod that says, Hey. Saw your post. Liked it. Peace out.

A blog is a simple, searchable content management system. Why, oh why, are you hoarding all of your industry knowledge to yourself  Are you saving it for posterity Do you think St. Peter will give you extra points for having a huge collection of inaccessible folders on your computer

– A blog is FUN, darnit It is a chance to just be you, and even see and experience your own voice and priorities over time.

Sure, a lot of blogging gurus say there are rules like, you should blog at least three times a week or be strategic or keep posts short; avoid long tangents like this one. And a lot of PAGs that is People Against Blogging say no one reads them, or they are a waste of time, or all of the above. But to this I say, WHO CARES

No one reading your darn internal folders, or going through your file cabinets, but you still throw articles and information in there

Why not claim your intellectual territory and put a select and steady amount of information, opinions, photos, and energy OUT THERE to be discovered by one or more of the proverbial masses, if and when they come looking for you or the information, knowledge, products, or services you have to offer

God did not just not bother with Antarctica because he figured no one would ever find the frigid continent, right And now, with advances in technology, we get to watch fine films like March of the Penguins,National Treasure, and The X-Files Movie.

If you have a passion, specialty, niche, mission, or business and you gotta have at least one of those things, unless you are a corpse…or Paris Hilton, then START BLOGGING. Do not worry about traffic. Don’t worry about the nit picky stuff.

Do it imperfectly. Find your voice. Discover your flow. Loosen up. Be bold. Get yourself out there.

And if you refuse, please answer this one question.

How to Stop Writer’s Block and Increase Your Chances

Posted on October 25th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

There are several ideas and theories put forward as to why people have writer’s block. This list includes, but is not limited to:
– depression and anxiety
– natural ebb and flow of writing
– traceable to a single instance
– laziness
– untalented writer
– all written out

The fact is that anyone who endeavors to place his original thoughts and ideas to paper (or computer) will experience that total mind bending blank wall at least one time in his or her career. The question isn’t if it will happen but how to break through it.

Writer’s block is a worm of self-doubt and self-consciousness that can be triggered from any number of circumstances. The real issue isn’t how it happened but rather how to break free of the symptoms. And it is curable.

For some, writer’s block can be a short irritating experience while for others it can last for years. Breaking through writer’s block is a process of self-discovery and also a progression of specific action steps that lead back to productive writing.

You’ve heard the expression that recognizing the problem is half the battle? It’s true. And especially true in this case. Often times writer’s block is chalked up to a half a dozen other excuses or reasons for not being able to write constructively or creatively. It is what it is and it’s writer’s block. Recognizing that will help to cure what ails and move on.

Your next step is to pinpoint the source. Almost all cases can be traced to a specific incident that brings your self-confidence and expertise into question. It might have been an off-handed comment by a colleague or friend; you might have lost a contest or been denied an application. There is a source and your journey will be much quicker if you find it.

Look at the source objectively. Reading is a subjective art form. Even best selling authors have their critics. No one single opinion is that important. Something about that comment popped your enthusiasm. Break it down, look at it closely then discard it.

Writers write because they care. If a writer doesn’t care about his writing there is no writer’s block. Understanding that a writer writes because they want or need to write negates any validity in comments from friends or colleagues. What ever it was that stopped your creativity is not valid. There is enough validity in your need to write.

On a more concrete level, after going through these steps, you should then make the effort to sit down and write each day. Even if you only put gibberish to paper you will find that the simple act of writing will gradually increase your self-confidence and assure you that your expertise has not magically disappeared.

Writer’s block is an irritating self-confidence issue that can easily lead to years of self-destruction if not addressed properly. Sadly, the world is would be without many of today’s greatest works if the authors had not addressed their issues .

Do you have use for a Machine Gun around here?

Then perhaps you just need a great ebook!

The opening line is by Elmer Wheeler - considered America’s Greatest Salesman. Millions follow his teachings and have seen infinite success just by putting his advice in place.

Now imagine if you were an Internet Marketer and you could do the same?

Well, now  you can!

I’ve been an affiliate marketer for some time now, and have recently had the pleasure of reviewing ‘Canned Genius: Internet Marketing’. It’s a product which left me completely amazed at some things I had been missing all along.

Canned Genius: Internet Marketing came about after an investigation into scams online. The author, Susan Black, was dismayed by how many people were getting blatantly ripped off, but then she stumbled across a group of people whose backgrounds checked out and were actually selling good services to the public.

She befriended them and then interviewed them about their success, how they really did it, what the key things were that made them join the big leagues and what their biggest recommendations are for others who want to succeed online.

The book is a series of 8 interviews with these successful people, including Andrew Hansen, Colleen Slater and Tristan Bull to name a few.

Its an eye opener and is certainly a great read for anyone in the Internet Marketing business, as these people give an honest and truthful account of their success.

Canned Genius is a highly recommendable product, I really enjoyed reading about the real ways to be successful without all the sales pitch blurb. I also liked that all the contributors offered a free product of their own, some offered advice or a special report just for purchasers of the book.

Creating A WordPress Blog

Posted on October 25th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

The world of the Internet is constantly evolving, from its terminology to its software. The Internet is changing the way we communicate, and opening a whole new world of social media. Blogging is one such constantly evolving method of communication, and WordPress is one of the leading platforms people are using to blog.

Evolving Software

WordPress is a free, web-based software that is open source, which means its basic code is available for developers to build upon and alter at will. WordPress is the successor to b2cafelog, the original blogging platform, but this blogging child has evolved beyond its blog roots. Its open source flexibility means that programmers across the globe have altered its functionality until WordPress has become a content management system (CMS), or a program that creates, edits, and manages website content, as well as blog content. The best part about WordPress is that it doesn’t require knowledge of PHP or HTML code to use it. WordPress is a basic templating system, where the blog or website creator chooses the look and rearranges the content.

Feature Highlights

WordPress has a theme system that allows for easy and versatile blog or web design, where the creator can change the look of the site as often as they like instantly. WordPress also has wonderful features such as integrated link management, complex indexing of articles or blog posts, auto filters for formatting text, and the capacity for multiple authors for blog or site content. WordPress works with other blogging services, as well, with support for Trackbacks and Pingbacks. WordPress also has security features such as blacklist and spam checkers for visitor comments, user registration, and password protection for selected posts. Along with the versatile range of basic WordPress functions, there are also hundreds of compatible plugins available that can greatly extend and enhance the software’s functionality.

Professional Use

WordPress may have started as a communication tool for the individual, but it also has many benefits to offer to the world of business. Since WordPress is so simple to use and the content so easy to maintain, this means less overhead and less time spent for creation and maintenance of company websites. The blogging aspect of WordPress also means that companies have a popular, in-demand method for keeping their audiences updated on company business and advertising their products and services. Plus, blogging offers a wonderful method for companies to get feedback from the consumers. WordPress makes it easy to keep the content fresh, which increases search engine ranking so that the company’s content will have a better chance of audience exposure.

Everyone’s Dream Site

For people who haven’t got the technical knowledge or don’t have the patience or time to spend creating their own website from scratch, WordPress is an ideal option. With its flexible program, ease of installation, and the added functionality of plugins, WordPress provides a way for everyone to have the website of their dreams.

Business Blogging

Posted on October 24th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

So why should business blog? now there is a great question, and if you are a business owner and you haven’t yet considered adding a blog to your internet marketing strategy then you should and fast. Why? what is it about blogging that is so important that I would make a statement like that.

First of all, one of the reasons you should add a blog is it provides a personal form of communication with your audience, or in your case as a business owner, your customer. It allows you to create the “expert” factor in your marketing and you can run it on your web site or alongside on a separate domain name, plus you’ll benefit from the increase in traffic or searches that you’ll receive. If that wasn’t enough to get you running out and starting up a blog, Google and search engines in general love blogs, this is because they provide frequently updated and valuable content, and for that reason they get indexed faster than a standard web site and will, as long as you publish good quality content, end up ranking on the first page of Google.

I wrote my first article on blogging for business and the importance of adding a blog as a corporate communication tool over 12 months ago, and I’m surprised that the penny hasn’t dropped yet with small business owners.

Blogging is an extension of your business web site and allows you to add a personal touch to your web marketing, blogging also allows you a platform to discuss customer service issues or any issue that you believe relevant to your market. If you start to think where your customers get their information from today, you’d realise the value of a number one ranking on search engines.

Think about the Gen X&Y’s, how many of them go to the Yellow Pages to check out business or services? research says none of them do, they “Google” it, so you need to make sure your business web site ranks highly. Blogs allow you to keep the formal and conversational side of your business separate, this is done by running your blog alongside your formal web site. Your blog can be updated daily with information, products or promotions whilst linking to your main web site.

So what are the benefits to a business blog strategy?

Blogging is not hard, and it has real benefits for your business once you get your blog established. The most important things to remember with a blog once you start, are be consistent with your posting and provide good quality original content.

Are there any businesses that can’t benefit from a blog? No not to my point of view, so what are you waiting for, get started.
