I’ve been an affiliate marketer for some time now, and have recently had the pleasure of reviewing ‘Canned Genius: Internet Marketing’. It’s a product which left me completely amazed at some things I had been missing all along.

Canned Genius: Internet Marketing came about after an investigation into scams online. The author, Susan Black, was dismayed by how many people were getting blatantly ripped off, but then she stumbled across a group of people whose backgrounds checked out and were actually selling good services to the public.

She befriended them and then interviewed them about their success, how they really did it, what the key things were that made them join the big leagues and what their biggest recommendations are for others who want to succeed online.

The book is a series of 8 interviews with these successful people, including Andrew Hansen, Colleen Slater and Tristan Bull to name a few.

Its an eye opener and is certainly a great read for anyone in the Internet Marketing business, as these people give an honest and truthful account of their success.

Canned Genius is a highly recommendable product, I really enjoyed reading about the real ways to be successful without all the sales pitch blurb. I also liked that all the contributors offered a free product of their own, some offered advice or a special report just for purchasers of the book.

There are no rules in blogging. You can create a blog (or two) on any subject you are passionate about. A successful blog gets a lot of readers, otherwise known as traffic and you can create various forms of income from your blog traffic. Just one way to do that is with Google’s AdSense ™ program. Create similar blogs at multiple sites. There are a lot of places you can set up a blog for free, so why not consider writing similar articles and placing them onto a variety of sites? This can dramatically increase your readership, and if it does, your profits should follow.

Write about your passion. If you write about something in which you have no interest, you’ll likely lose interest fast. Even if you don’t, your readers will notice your lack of enthusiasm in your writing.

Experiment with your writing style until you find your own ‘voice’. When you do, you are likely to find your readership increasing. You can write reviews, critiques, factual information or your own opinions. Let at least a little of yourself through into your writing so your readers can connect with you as a person.

Fine tune your AdSense campaign. Name your ads on your page and follow what is working best. Try different sized ads in different places. Experiment with text links and images to see what works best on your site. Testing is your friend and Google has some great analytical tools to discover what’s happening on your site. Use them to your advantage, because it’s your income you are improving.

Keep at it. Being persistent is the key. As a famous quote once said “Ninety percent of success is just showing up”. Make sure you keep on writing and are part of the ninety percent.

Here is a step-by-step guide to the easiest way to create your own blog:

1. Find a host. Unless you want to create your own website, you’re going to have to find a website that will host your blog. In other words, you need to find a website that will let you have your own page to update, etc., but they do the work of saving and displaying your page (along with the collection of other pages from bloggers like you) on the Internet.

There are many sites that host blogs for free. You can ask your friends for input if you want to be in the same blog community that they are, or you can search online for blog sites. Blogger.com, Wordpress.com, Weebly.com, Xanga.com, and LiveJournal.com are among the top most popular free blog hosts. Also, many social networking sites, like Facebook and Myspace have a section for writing notes or blog entries, so they too could be used as a blog, but these websites are not focused on blogging. Sometimes your internet provider, like Copper.net, will host blog accounts. Go to the member’s homepage or contact your ISP to see if this option is available for you.

2. Create a new account. In order for you to have a blog page, you’ll need an account with a username and password. Your username usually ends up being the primary name for the blog, e.g., “user_name.blogger.com” would be the url to your blog and probably show up in one or two places on the site. Most host sites will have several predesigned themes to pick from. This is a good place to start, especially while you take some time to learn how to make design edits. Each site is different, so you’ll have to learn how to change backgrounds, colors, and widgets specifically on this site. There should be plenty of help pages to show you how to do everything. Don’t worry if you aren’t sure you what you want your layout to look like, you can always change it later! Sometimes its fun to go with a completely different look some months into your blogging.
